Our vision for the
Centre for Research Excellence

Strengthening systems for Indigenous health care equity (CRE-STRIDE) is equitable health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through quality improvement (QI) and collaborative research to strengthen primary health care systems (PHC).

Our research approach is based on growing evidence of the importance of community-driven, culture-strengthening interventions in Indigenous primary health care settings. Our way of working puts the strengths, needs and aspirations of Indigenous people at the centre of the research process informed by methodologies that reflect Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing and advance international Indigenous scholarship.

CRE-STRIDE News!

We have been successful in securing project funds via the National Health and Medical Research Council’s Synergy Grants. CRE-STRIDE’s next moves are stepping into ‘nation building’ through a project aptly named CRE-STAUNCH (Stronger Together As Unified Nations for Community-led Health).

“The name of the project, STAUNCH, is an acronym that really does sum it up – we believe that health and wellbeing solutions for First Nations will be stronger when communities take control and are empowered to lead, that’s what will be focused on: strengthening First Nations’ self-governance, and guiding policymakers to look at health solutions that holistically take into account social, political, economic and environmental issues.”  – Veronica Matthews, STAUNCH Lead.
